Something-Old-Thumb

Louder Than Eleven has been working with Ben Spannuth for a few years now on a variety of projects.  Ben travels the world as a full time pro climber looking for new sport routes and challenging repeats.  Ben recently landed in West Virginia at the New River Gorge and has been tearing through the older established routes as well as putting up some of his own lines.  Jon Glassberg headed out to West Virginia for a few days this December to shoot Ben on some of his recent repeats, first ascents, and projects.  While at the New River Gorge Jon met up with Mike Williams and shot some video of a first ascent he had completed a year ago called Picket Fence (5.14-).

In this video we hope to show Ben’s typical climbing process:  visiting a new area, trying the older established lines, establishing new lines, bolting new routes and then leaving a legacy of projects for future climbers to try.  In the video Mike climbs Picket Fence (5.14-) and Ben makes the first ascent of Journeyman (5.14-) and Powerbait (5.14-) as well as leaving an open project he was painfully close to sending on the last day of the trip.  In true New River Gorge style, it rained every day we were there, but we got what we needed to showcase some of the best sandstone sport climbing in the USA.
